Thank you for having accepted to act as an abstract reviewer.
Breaking Abstract Reviewing deadline: Wednesday, April 23, 2025

1. How do I access the reviewing portal?
  • If you are currently a member or have been a member of ESHG in the last 7 years, you already have an account. Click on “Forgot your password” and enter your e-mail address. You will receive an e-mail to reset your password. Once you have updated your password you can log in with your new credentials.
  • If you have not been a member of ESHG in the last 7 years, click on “Create new account”. Fill in all required fields and save your personal information by clicking “Finish”. Following this, you will receive an e-mail with your personal account activation link (ATTENTION: link is only valid for 24 hours!). Once you have activated your account you can log in with your email address and password.
    Note: Please also check your SPAM folder for the account activation email.
  • If you have submitted an abstract for ESHG 2025, you can use the login credetials created for the submission.

Once logged in, start the reviewing by clicking on any of the abstract titles listed in your Review portal page. You will then be forwarded to the actual reviewing page to enter your scores. Once you have entered all your scores, your reviewing portal status will change to COMPLETE (green).

2. How do I score my abstracts online?

Once you have entered the reviewing page, please click on “Review Abstracts” on the left side of the page.
This will display the first/next abstract to be scored.

The page will display:

  • the control number
  • the title of the abstract
  • the topic of the abstract
  • the keywords (provided by the author)
  • the presentation preference
  • the abstract text

You will have to select:

  • the Score (mandatory!)
    – 10: Outstanding
    –  9:  Excellent
    –  8:  Very Good
    –  7:  Good
    –  6:  Above average
    –  5:  Average
    –  4:  Below average
    –  3:  Poor
    –  2:  Very poor
    –  1:  Reject – Extremely weak, duplication of other abstract(s), unethical, wrong meeting
    –  Conflict of Interest
  • Important: Please note that the presentation preference of the submitter (oral, hybrid poster or e-poster) should not be taken into account when scoring. High quality abstracts with preference for poster presentation should be scored with “outstanding” or “excellent” if applicable, as the score will determine the candidates for the poster awards.
  • In case you wish to abstain from scoring an abstract from your own group, please select “Conflict of Interest” from the dropdown so this will not influence the average score of this paper.
  • If you think this abstract has a potential commercial bias tick the according box.
  • If you think the abstract was submitted under the wrong topic, please indicate an alternative topic from the topic list (optional).
  • If you wish to add a comment, please enter your comment in the according text box at the bottom of the page.
  • You will need to enter a score in order for the step to be completed. It will not be sufficient to enter only a comment. This abstract will “re-appear” for reviewing at the end.

Click on “Save and Continue” to access the next paper.

Please note that your input is saved after each abstract. You may quit any time and return to finish reviewing at a later stage.

Possible reasons for rejecting an abstract are:

  • It is completely nonsense or incomprehensible;
  • Contains no results or structure;
  • The science is fundamentally wrong or submitted to the wrong meeting;
  • Reports unethical work;
  • Obvious goal of advertising corporate products or services
  • If there are more, almost identical, abstracts. Some groups send in a lot of poor-quality abstracts around one topic, with only slight differences (e.g. different regions of the country). Out of these almost identical abstracts, we will accept the best scored one and reject the others.

3. How do I download my abstracts to work offline?

Step 1:

    • Click on “BulkView/Print Abstracts” on the left of the page.
    • Select the number of abstracts that should be displayed in each group (10-50), click on “Include All Abstracts” and finally on “Compose Abstracts” (in the lower part of the page).
    • The next page gives you links to batches of the selected number of abstracts each.
    • Click on “Display 1 to NN” to open the new page, you can then print or “copy/paste” abstracts into a word document. Repeat this step with all further batches.

Experienced users may filter the download using the “Sort Options” as well as the “Abstract range”, but you may just as well ignore these options to get all abstracts in your topic.

Step 2A:

    • After reviewing, please return and click on “QuickScore Abstracts“.
    • Click on “Include All Abstracts” and “Search“.
    • The next page displays all assigned abstracts and you can enter your score (and comment if applicable) for each abstract as indicated above. If you need to read through the abstract text again, you may click on the control number of the respective abstract.
    • To finish, click on “Save and Continue” and access the next set of papers.
      Please note that your input is saved after each page. You may return and finish scoring at a later stage.

Step 2B:

    • Go to “Export Score Sheet” on the left side. This allows you to download a text file of your batch, that you can import into Excel to add all your scores and comments (optional) easily in Excel. Do NOT rename the default columns or control numbers. The rest of the Excel you can format as needed.
    • Once you have added your scores and comments (optional) in the Excel, save it as a text file (.txt). Go to “Import Score Sheet” on the left side and upload the file. Please WAIT a few minutes for the file to be uploaded. A notification will show up on the screen once the upload has been completed.
    • To check if your scores and comments (optional) have been uploaded successfully, go to “Edit/View Scores” and click on search.

4. How do I change a score?
  • Click on “QuickScore Abstracts
  • Click on “Include Only Scored Abstracts” and “Search” (both in the lower part of the page).
  • Scroll for the abstract to be changed and enter the new score.
  • If changing only a few scores,  you may enter the control number directly in the text box and then click on “Search”.

Changes are only possible until the reviewing deadline April 23, 2025.

5. Which options or filters can I use?
  • The “Category Filter” will give you the possibility to display only the abstracts of one topic, in case you have been assigned more than one.
  • Clicking on “Review abstracts” will take you to the first/next abstract to be scored.
  • Edit/View Scores” will give you an overview on your scores in tabular format and will allow to enter the abstracts and to edit the score.
  • BulkView/Print Abstracts” allows the download of abstract batches and offline reviewing. Scoring can then be made via “QuickScore Abstracts” (see below).
  • QuickScore Abstracts” will display a tabular view of the abstracts. Mostly used to enter scores after an offline reviewing or to edit scores.
  • Back to Dashboard/Portal” will take you back to the reviewing portal.
  • The “Histogram of your scores” will show you statistics on the number of abstracts and their respective scores.
