Conference Fellowships*
The ESHG will again award fellowships to early career investigators as a contribution to attend the ESHG 2024 conference.
The application is open to:
- Students
- MDs: should not have more than four years work experience after completing the specialisation and should not be a Principal Investigator (P.I.).
- All other investigators: should not have more than four years post-graduate work experience and should not be a Principal Investigator (P.I.).
The application deadline was February 6, 2024. Applications after the deadline cannot be accepted.
Requirements for fellowships of Categories 1-3 (specified below).
- Fellowship applications require the submission of an abstract for the ESHG 2024 conference.
- Fellowship applications must be submitted through the ESHG online abstract submission system.
- Only early career investigators (= not more than 4 years post-graduate work experience) can be awarded with a fellowship.
- Fellowships cannot be received in two consecutive years.
- Only one fellowship can be awarded to an applicant per year.
- Only applicants of accepted abstracts can be awarded with a fellowship.
Authors wishing to be considered for fellowships of Categories 1-3 (specified below) must tick the appropriate boxes during the online abstract submission (Step: Further Details).
Fellowships of Category 4 (specified below) are at the sole discretion of the national societies.
1. Conference Fellowships for European Countries
The ESHG provides up to 140 conference fellowships, which will be awarded by the Scientific Programme Committee based on abstract acceptance to Early Career Investigators (= not more than 4 years post-graduate work experience) from European countries. NO country restrictions apply.
The fellowship comprises the waiving of the registration fee, as well as EUR 400.- as contribution towards travel expenses.
2. Conference Fellowships for Non-European Countries
The ESHG provides 20 conference fellowships, which will be awarded by the Scientific Programme Committee based on abstract acceptance to Early Career Investigators (= not more than 4 years post-graduate work experience) from a restricted number of Non-European Countries (5 fellowships for each region: Central and South America, Africa, Middle East and Asia).
The fellowship comprises the waiving of the registration fee, as well as EUR 600.- as contribution towards travel expenses.
3. Conference Fellowships of Excellence
The ESHG provides 5 conference fellowships, which will be awarded by the Scientific Programme Committee based on the peer-reviewing process to the best submissions by Early Career Investigators (= not more than 4 years post-graduate work experience). NO country restrictions apply.
The fellowship comprises the waiving of the registration fee, as well as EUR 600.- as contribution towards travel expenses. This fellowship is not accumulative with the other fellowship categories.
4. National Fellowships
The ESHG is offering fellowships to Early Career Investigators (= not more than 4 years post-graduate work experience) via the National Human Genetics Societies of Europe.
The national society will select one fellowship holder, which should comply with the following criteria:
– She/he should be a current member of the national society.
– She/he should have shown excellence in the field of human genetics, and/or have given a good presentation/poster at the latest national meeting.
– She/he should not have more than 4 years post-graduate work experience.
– She/he cannot receive more than one fellowship in two consecutive years.
– Only one person per country is eligible.
